Naro-Fominsk can be explored through its museums, memorial sites and parks. The local history museum traces the history of the city and region from the ancient settlement of Fominskoye to the present day; several monuments offer their own historical perspectives. The banks of the Nara add a landscape perspective. For your trip planning, you can choose a theme: Would you like to follow the city's development over time, visit individual memorials, or focus on the park?

City History and Museum Themes

The permanent exhibition at the Naro-Fominsk Local History Museum covers the history of the city and region from the ancient settlement of Fominskoye to the present day. Its broad time span offers a way to explore the city's history that goes beyond viewing individual monuments.

The Naro-Fominsk Museum has also developed themed programs. These include Christmas in pre-revolutionary Russia, Easter gatherings, Russian tea traditions, and animals as fairy-tale heroes. There are also themed tours about events of the Great Patriotic War, as well as the educational programs “Vera Voloshina – Geroy Rossii” and “Nam pesnya pomogala voevat'”. The topics range from customs and tea traditions to the history of the war. If you would like to plan for one of these programs, it is best to check the current schedule in advance.

Memorial Sites with Different Dedications

The “Gorod Naro-Fominsk— gorod voinskoy slavy” stele was erected in Victory Square in 2010. A monument to Lieutenant General M. G. Yefremov was erected there in December 2003. The “Vechnyy ogon'” memorial complex, with its Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, was opened on May 9, 1973. In the central part of Pobeda Park, the “Samolet MIG-17” monument has commemorated Naro-Fominsk pilots who died in the Second World War since 1986. The dedications have different emphases, ranging from the city's military honor to a general, the unknown soldier, and the pilots from Naro-Fominsk who died in the war.

On December 26, 2025, the interactive museum complex “Liniya oborony” opened on the grounds of Pobedy Park in Naro-Fominsk. The date marks a more recent historical milestone alongside the city's older memorial sites.

Parks, Riverbanks and Exhibitions

Pobeda Park is located in Naro-Fominsk, directly on the banks of the Nara. The monument to the pilots in the central part of the park connects the riverside setting with a specific memorial site. Patriot Park in Pobedy has a dedicated exhibition area featuring military equipment. Visitors can view the exhibits and learn about their history. The park also has a children's playground, sports and volleyball courts, an amphitheater, and viewing platforms. The exhibition and other park amenities offer different considerations when choosing what to see.

Other Places in Naro-Fominsky District

The wider destination of Naro-Fominsky District has further historical points of interest, distinct from those in Naro-Fominsk. In the village of Kamenskoye, the Church of St. Nicholas is considered one of the oldest churches in Moscow Oblast and one of the first stone churches in the Principality of Moscow. According to scholars, it was built in the 14th century. In Vereya, the Church of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem was built in 1677–1679 as a monastery cathedral. After the monastery was dissolved during the secularization reform of 1764, it became a parish church.

The Vereya Local History Museum has five halls. Two house permanent exhibitions on the history and ethnography of the region and the Second World War; the other three host temporary exhibitions. Dubki Park in the settlement of Kalininets offers a different focus, with walking and cycling paths, children's playgrounds, and play areas. The regional options therefore range from churches and museum history to paths and recreational facilities in the park.
