You can explore Aprelevka for trip planning through three themes: the history of vinyl record production, the Aprelevka Palace of Culture, and Dubki Forest Park. The industrial history spans several stages; the Palace of Culture makes its connection to the record factory visible. By contrast, walking paths and a nature-inspired art installation take center stage in the forest park. These different themes can help guide you as you decide which side of the town interests you most.

The Record Factory and the Palace of Culture

The record factory was founded in 1910. In the 1930s, the Aprelevka factory became the leading record producer in the Soviet Union. In 1964, it became part of the Melodiya record company and its main production site; the factory accounted for 65 percent of all records produced in the Soviet Union. These details mark different stages: the founding, its leading position, and its later affiliation with Melodiya. The years trace the development over time, while the percentage puts the factory’s share of total Soviet production into perspective.

The Aprelevka Palace of Culture adds another chapter to this history. It opened in 1948 at 15a Komsomolskaya Street and was then called the House of Culture of the Aprelevka Record Factory. Its original name establishes the connection to the factory. The timeline is different, too: the Palace of Culture opened between the factory’s founding in 1910 and its incorporation into Melodiya in 1964. This makes it possible to view the industrial development and the history of the Palace of Culture as related, but distinct, chapters.

Exhibitions and the Town Anniversary

In 2024, the Palace of Culture hosted an art exhibition, an applied arts exhibition, and a small exhibition for National Unity Day. These three examples cover fine art, applied design, and an occasion from the holiday calendar. The square in front of the Palace of Culture has traditionally been the center of the town anniversary celebrations. Thus, specific exhibitions from a particular year sit alongside the square’s traditional role in the town anniversary celebrations: two different cultural connections to the same place.

Dubki Forest Park

During improvement works in 2023–2024, more than eight kilometers of walking paths made from natural materials were laid in Dubki Forest Park. This figure refers to the paths as a whole, not to the length of a single walk. That distinction is useful when planning a trip: the description refers to a network of paths, not to a particular loop. This makes it possible to consider the park as a destination in its own right without confusing the total length with a single route.

In the renovated forest park, the Wish Oak was the main nature-inspired art installation. At the 2024 reopening celebration, guests of honor symbolically planted it. The paths and the Wish Oak represent two different aspects of the park’s design: the paths are part of the work carried out across the grounds, while the oak was part of a symbolic celebration. Together with the history of the record factory and the Palace of Culture, they offer different themes to guide your exploration of Aprelevka.
