Nikonovskoye: The History of the Church of the Intercession
Accommodation in Nikonovskoye
Nikonovskoye can be explored through a clearly defined theme: the history of the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos. The period when it was built, the landowner associated with it, and the later start of its restoration give the place a specific historical focus.
The Church of the Intercession in Nikonovskoye
The Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos was built in 1738 through the efforts of General Sofya Dmitriyevna Matyushkina. She owned land in the village of Nikonovskoye. Thus, both the year of construction and the connection between the patron and the village are part of the local history.
Restoration began in 1993, when the church was handed over to the Orthodox community. The Church of the Intercession is designated a regional cultural monument. A 2020 report mentions services and a Sunday school there.
Cultural and leisure destinations in the wider Ramensky District
In the wider destination of Ramensky District, Ramensky City Park offers a different cultural and leisure focus. It was formerly the Ramenskoye estate and has been a monument of regional historical and cultural significance since 2001. The park offers year-round rides, playgrounds, workshops, and cultural, leisure, sports, and health activities. These include 15 rides for children and adults and eight sports grounds for various sports. As figures for current facilities can change, it is advisable to check the latest information before visiting.
Events are also part of the park: events are regularly held in the historic amphitheater and on the main Lira stage. If you are interested in a particular program, check the dates for your travel period. The park’s landscape also features centuries-old linden trees and the restored spring of the Holy Trinity.
Gzhel ceramics are considered one of the best-known folk crafts of today’s Ramensky urban district. The Gzhel Artistic Painting Factory in the village of Gzhel regularly offers production tours that include a visit to the Gzhel Museum, as well as workshops. The private Dom Saltykova Museum and Exhibition Center in Rechitsy offers a different perspective on Gzhel culture. It commemorates the famous Gzhel artist and his successors. Visitors can attend lectures, tour the exhibition area, and meet artists and musicians. A creative workshop offers classes in various types of ceramics. The focus therefore differs: at the factory, production, the museum, and workshops take center stage, while Dom Saltykova also offers lectures, exhibitions, and opportunities to meet people.
Bykovo offers another architectural theme in Ramensky District: the Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God was built in the late 18th century to a design by Vasily Bazhenov and is an architectural monument. The park of the Bykovo estate covers 42 hectares. It is home to two-hundred-year-old oaks and larches, as well as old linden avenues, two ponds, and an island with a rotunda.
The Gaya-Severin Ski Club in the wider Ramensky District offers a distinctly different experience. It has four slopes of varying difficulty, with a total length of more than 1,000 meters and a vertical drop of up to 75 meters. The figures for the number and length of the slopes and the vertical drop provide a specific overview of this sports offering.
