When looking for accommodation, you can assess Zheleznodorozhny by the themes you want to shape your stay: regional history and nature, children’s book illustration, remembrance or activities in the park. These different themes can help you organize your interests for the trip and get a clearer picture of the destination.

Local History Museum, Nature and Local Remembrance

The Zheleznodorozhny Local History Museum displays exhibits on the region’s history and nature, as well as its customs, notable people and events. The natural history collection includes archaeological finds from excavations on the shores of Lake Biserovo, minerals and rare insects. It also features specimens of birds and animals listed in the Red Data Book of the Moscow Region. The collection thus brings together traces of earlier excavations and different aspects of the region’s natural environment.

The Zheleznodorozhny Victory Stele commemorates residents of the town who died in the Great Patriotic War; 125 soldiers are named on it. A workers’ barracks in the settlement of the Savvinskaya Manufactory is also part of the architectural heritage of the Zheleznodorozhny microdistrict in Balashikha: it is designated as a cultural heritage site.

Children’s Book Illustration and Museum Programs

The “Kartinka” Museum of Children’s Book Illustration opened in March 2017 and is the only museum of its kind in the Moscow Region. Its collection includes more than 90 works by illustrator Viktor Duvidov. This offers a different cultural focus from the local history museum: here, children’s book illustration takes center stage.

The museum works with artists and hosts exhibitions, workshops, themed tours, quests and interactive programs for children. These different formats give the museum a distinctive profile. Those interested in illustration can see the collection and the events program as two different aspects of the same museum; the program includes both tours and interactive activities.

Seasonal Activities in Pestovsky Park

Activities in the wooded part of Pestovsky Park vary with the season: in winter, you can ski there; in summer, you can roller-skate. This is a specific seasonal difference to consider when planning a stay. If outdoor activities are among your travel interests, you can also think about which of these two seasonal activities best suits your visit.

Balashikhinsky District: More Regional Themes

The wider destination of Balashikhinsky District offers additional park and cultural heritage themes. Pehorka Park has a rope course, several children’s playgrounds and sandpits, as well as recreation pavilions. Its sports area includes volleyball and basketball courts, table tennis tables, a calisthenics area and a skate park. Pehorka Les Park offers a different focus: it has running trails, a sports ground and a football field with stands; the park also has a children’s playground, pavilions, verandas and canopies for quiet relaxation.

The estates in Balashikhinsky District also differ in their history and architecture. The 18th-century Gorenki Estate includes, among other buildings, a palace, a winter garden wing, a mineralogy wing and a botany wing, as well as two colonnaded galleries with pavilions. The complex also includes an orangery and a grotto in the park. Pekhra-Yakovlevskoye Estate dates from 1770–1785; its complex includes a palace, east and west wings, two colonnaded galleries, a theater building, a church from the same period and a park. The orangery dates from 1810. The grounds of Pekhra-Yakovlevskoye Estate are open for walks; check the current conditions before visiting.
