Noginsk: Parks, Museums and Morozov History
Accommodation in Noginsk
Explore Noginsk through its green spaces and cultural history. At Volkhonka, these interests meet: the green area within the city limits is a regionally significant historical and natural monument. Its landscape includes an arboretum that originated as a cultivated garden with unusual plants and foreign trees. This history also makes Volkhonka interesting to visitors who want to learn how a landscaped garden became the starting point for an arboretum.
Green spaces with different characters
Glukhovo Park of Culture and Recreation has a different focus. This spacious landscape park is defined by trees of various species growing along the banks of a pond. Volkhonka and Glukhovo thus offer two distinct landscape themes: at Volkhonka, the history of the landscaped garden and arboretum takes center stage; at Glukhovo, it is the trees in a parkland setting by the pond. This contrast can help if, when visiting, you are more interested in garden and natural history or in a parkland rich in vegetation.
In Noginsk Central Park, the “Alley of Fairy Tales” tells another story. It features 38 figures from fairy tales and animated films, and the number grows every year. The collection thus brings familiar stories together with an ever-growing ensemble of figures. If you would also like to get to know Noginsk through cultural themes like these, the alley offers a different perspective from the history of the arboretum and parks.
Museums and city history
The Noginsk Museum and Exhibition Center presents the city’s history from the 14th century onward and preserves around 14,000 exhibits. These include archaeological finds, documents, orders and medals from the Second World War, a small coin collection, and Russian and Western European paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection thus ranges from archaeological and historical objects to paintings. Visitors with a particular interest can choose which museum topics to focus on, such as documents, coins or works of art.
The “Bogorodsk” Post Station is a branch of the Noginsk Museum and Exhibition Center. Its exhibition focuses on the station and the Vladimir Highway. The post station is also associated with a story about Pushkin: according to some accounts, A. S. Pushkin stopped there and changed horses on his journeys to Boldino. This tradition is explicitly attributed to those accounts. The Museum and Exhibition Center also regularly organizes historical, art and arts-and-crafts exhibitions.
Morozov House Museum and planning your visit
The A. I. Morozov Family House Museum is located in a house in Glukhovo Park. It was built in 1908 to a design by architect A. V. Kuznetsov for the family of A. I. Morozov and was designated a regionally significant cultural heritage site in 2002. The collection includes more than a thousand items over 150 years old, including photographs, historical books and documents. Architectural history and personal records come together here: the house itself and the objects preserved inside offer different ways to engage with the visit.
The house museum can only be visited as part of a guided tour, and the group must include at least five people. Confirm these visiting requirements before your visit. During the warmer months, merchant-style tea gatherings are held in the pavilion on the grounds, with tea from a samovar, pancakes, pretzels and jam. If you plan to take part in this seasonal experience, check the specific date in advance.
Plan your stay around your interests
When choosing a hotel in Noginsk, it may help to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: parkland and the arboretum, city history and collections, or the Morozov family’s architectural and family history. This lets you tailor your search to your planned stay without treating park and museum visits as interchangeable simply because they share a theme.
