Nemchinovka: Church, History and Culture
Accommodation in Nemchinovka
Nemchinovka offers culture-minded travelers concrete points of interest: the history of the Church of the Nativity of Christ, an award ceremony held in 2024, and tours of Malevich memorial sites. You can plan your journey to the church using the named stops and route sections.
Getting to the Church of the Nativity of Christ
You can reach Nemchinovka station on suburban trains on the Belarusian line; the church is accessible from there. City bus No. 139 runs from the Filyovsky Park or Slavyansky Bulvar metro stations to the Novoivanovskoye stop at the underpass across Mozhayskoye Shosse. From the stop, a walking route leads to Nemchinovka station without crossing the road. After crossing the railway line, it is 50 m to 2-y Prosek and a further 100 m along the avenue to the church. With the bus option, the stop and station therefore come one after the other along the way; the stop is not the final landmark. Check current train services separately before planning your connection. After crossing the railway line, the two stated sections add up to 150 m to the church.
History and the Church Today
The Church of the Nativity of Christ opened in 1914 during the First World War. Its original church building was made from a wooden house donated for use as a church by the settlement’s founder, Mikhail Ardalionovich Nemchinov, and converted for that purpose. The original church building was later destroyed. The parish was restored in 2002, and services resumed at the same time. The donation of the house links the church’s beginnings to the history of the settlement’s founder.
Today, the Church of the Nativity of Christ is located in a room at the Nemchinovsky poselkovy klub, on the site of the destroyed original church building. The current church space and the former building are therefore two distinct chapters in the history of the place.
Art and Culture
On February 23, 2024, the award ceremony for the tenth open festival of children’s and youth drawing and decorative and applied arts, “Nemchinovka and Malevich,” took place in the hall of the Nemchinovsky kulturno-dosugovy tsentr. In addition to young artists from the Odintsovsky gorodskoy okrug, this edition also included young artists from Moscow, Krasnogorsk, and Lyubertsy.
The Malevich theme also features in a different format: the Nemchinovsky kulturno-dosugovy tsentr organizes tours of Malevich memorial sites in Nemchinovka. While the award ceremony focused on children’s and youth art, these tours focus on Malevich memorial sites. If you would like to include a tour in your plans, ask the center about current availability.
