When choosing a hotel in Mytishchi, it helps to start by considering which themes you would like to include in your stay: exhibition projects and arts and crafts at the Mytishchi Art Gallery, paths and wildlife watching in Yauza Park, or architectural and historical connections in other parks. The following places show what each has to offer, so you can plan your itinerary around culture, nature, architecture or history.

Paths, wildlife and history in Yauza Park

Yauza Park has several kilometres of paved walking and cycling paths. Benches and children’s playgrounds are also available. If you plan to get around on foot or by bike, the paved paths are a practical point to consider; you can also take the benches and playgrounds into account when planning.

In Yauza Park, you may encounter animals native to the Yauza floodplain, including species that are now rare. This adds the opportunity to observe nature to the activities on the paths.

Yauza Park was established in 2003. In the past, fishermen used the riverbank along the park. Its founding year and the earlier use of the riverbank provide two different historical reference points: one is precisely dated, while the other tells of a former use of the riverbank.

Exhibitions and arts and crafts

The Mytishchi Art Gallery presents 15 to 25 exhibition projects each year, covering a range of subjects. This variety makes the gallery a cultural attraction in its own right during your stay, offering a different focus from the paths and nature-watching opportunities in the parks.

Recurring subjects include Zhostovo trays by leading artists in this craft, Fedoskino and Palekh boxes, Pavlovo Posad shawls, Bogorodsk toys and Gzhel pieces. The gallery thus explores several named craft traditions and a variety of object types.

The programme also includes exhibitions of children’s art, workshops and meetings with artists. If you would like to plan around one of these events, check the current programme before your visit.

Architecture and history in other parks

Park Mira features a curved brick aqueduct, considered a symbolic model for the Rostokino Aqueduct. An aqueduct is a structure that carries water. Unlike Yauza Park, where the focus is on paths and wildlife watching, here the emphasis is on one architectural feature. For architecture enthusiasts, the park offers a distinct architectural highlight and a symbolic connection to another aqueduct.

The history of Taininsky Park is connected with the former Taininskoye estate. It once contained a travel palace where tsars would rest while travelling to cities farther from Moscow. The park therefore offers a historical perspective on the estate’s former use and the resting places used on journeys.

Taininsky Park has a children’s playground and a sports ground. If these facilities are important to your plans, it is advisable to check their condition before your visit.
